By plane, train or car:
You get the most skiing for your money if you travel from Sunday to Thursday. Zurich is the nearest airport. Swiss and SAS offer good value tickets from eg Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen. Or check with British Airways from London. If you take an early morning flight, you’ll be able to ski on your first afternoon in Engelberg.
Transportation...

Ryanair flies from Stockholm to Basel. From Basel airport you take a taxi or bus to the main railway station. Otherwise you can rent a car, but you won’t really need one once in Engelberg. Ryanair also operates a lot of flights to Milan, from which you would need to rent a car. There are good train connections from Zürich and Basel airports to Engelberg. Total travelling time and the number of changes depends on your arrival time, but expect a journey of 2 to 3 hours. If you arrive really late, we can arrange transport the last part of the journey up to Engelberg. With a hire car you get here in less than 2 hours. Drive via Luzern to Stans along the A2, then follow the signs to Engelbergertal. The road winds up through the valley and into the village. Drive to the Monastery, turn left and you’ll see the hotel on the right hand side 100m from the Monastery. Additional travel tips; When you search on the Internet, http://www.rail.ch, you’ll often find cheap early morning departures from Zürich. In that case, we recommend a low cost airport hotel for your last night, eg Hotel Formule1 which costs approx CHF 95 for up to three people sharing the same room. It’s only 10 minutes by hotel bus to the airport’s departure hall.
